George was revered by his immediate family as he became their guardian after his mother Vera became ill and passed away. He fostered sister Marion for a time. Yearly Crumback family gatherings at Marion and Gordon’s were raucous, loud and loving. The Langdon get togethers were fun as many of us were scattered across Canada. Dad also left his mark on the staff at St Joseph’s Villa in Dundas. They enjoyed his topless sunbathing, smart remarks and jokes and Thank you. He was allowed to feed the birds (his daily job) until Covid hit. He was well loved and cared for by the staff. Thank you from our hearts!
George was a WWII veteran going overseas with the Essex Scottish Regiment at age 17 and serving in the Netherlands. He was a long time employee of TransCanada Pipeline working in the early years to build the line From BC to Ontario and testing out new equipment to check welds and another checking the integrity of the massive pipe before any product was allowed through. As a family we moved every year from K to grade 8 and learned to make friends quickly and adjust to urban and rural lifeways. Once the line was complete Compressor stations were built to push the gas along and Dad supervised stations in Saskatchewan and Ontario until his retirement. Everywhere he went he pursued his interest in the Legion, Masons and Shriners.
One of his greatest gifts to my sister and me was to push us to get a solid education, something he was unable to do in his youth. His pride in his girls and their family was never ending. Our family took car trips yearly and in retirement Dad loved to travel to Texas and Florida where he kept a cottage. In his nineties he sailed to California with Dauna, took the train west with Bonnie and visited Bonnie in Scotland. He had indeed travelled far.
We miss you Dad!
