In her 81 years of life, Elizabeth Ainsworth (Gorman), lived with the certainty that she was always loved. As the youngest in a family of Scottish immigrants, Elizabeth was showered with attention and affection from her parents, sister and the Scottish aunts and uncles who followed her family from Glasgow to Toronto. It was a home filled with family, fun and laughter.
Love took a different turn in 1954 when she met, and later married, Robert Ainsworth. For five decades Bob and Bette lived a fairytale romance that began on the dance floor at the Balmy Beach Canoe Club and ended with Bob’s death from cancer in 2007. With Bob, her best friend and husband of 51 years, they proved that "fairy tales can come true."
Elizabeth was born in the Great Depression and grew up in a decade of war. She graduated from Loretto College high school, and joined the General Electric company as a payroll clerk. Years later, after taking night school accounting courses, she joined Teleflora Canada where she rose in the ranks to become vice-president of finance.
Elizabeth Ainsworth passed away December 29th in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton after a period of declining health. Elizabeth leaves behind four daughters - Lynne, Roberta, Cathy and Carolyn - and eight grandchildren.
The family thanks the CCU Medical team from St. Joseph’s for their tender care.
“Bob, let’s have that last dance. Love Bette.”
A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held on Saturday, January 6th at 1 p.m. at the MARLATT FUNERAL HOME, 195 King St. W. in Dundas, Ontario.
