Colleen Frances Lee

October 31, 1930 - January 13 2022

Born in Sioux Lookout, Ontario on Hallowe’en, Colleen was delivered on the kitchen table while

neighbourhood kids shouted ‘trick or treat’ at the door. Colleen grew up in the north -

snowshoeing, skating, canoeing and hiking. When she went to school in Montreal she flew

back north on the Beaver pontoon plane, clinging to a cargo box as a seat.

Colleen attended The Royal Victorian School of Nursing in Montreal graduating in the class of

‘52B’. Many of the girls she went to school with became lifelong friends who would meet up

and pick up the conversation as if no time had passed. In Montreal, Colleen met and married

Len Harbour and together they raised five children (Tom, Claudia, Nancy, Naomi and Marion).

They started married life in Alberta then moving to Ontario and finally to B.C. following Len’s

United Church ministry. As they moved, Colleen’s nursing career had many turns from

psychiatric nurse to public health nurse where she lead the union in a strike for better pay and

working hours.

Colleen moved to Calgary after Len’s death to be closer to the mountains she loved hiking and

skiing in. She met and married Frank Lee in Calgary and they spent many years travelling the

world and moving houses from Calgary to Kelowna to Vancouver Island gathering many fond

memories of times and travels spent with the extended Lee clan. Hawaii was a lifelong love for

Colleen and she travelled there with family and friends for many years.

Predeceased by husband Len and daughter Naomi. Colleen is survived by her children and

grandchildren.

Donations are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada for those of you with family

coping with the heartbreak of dementia. Alternatively, to the Nature Conservancy of Canada to

enable future generations to enjoy the natural Canada Colleen loved so much.
