passed away suddenly, Easter morning in the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, B.C. He was surrounded by his family, after a hard fought battle, of just 3 weeks in duration, with Spinal and Brain Cancer.
Larry devoted his life to his wife Joy, and his 3 children, Fraser, Laird and Marisa (Cody) and his 3 grandsons David, Daniel, and Joseph, and his brother in law, Andrew, and his mother in law Evelyn Leask. He is also survived by his sister Donna & family.
His early years were spent in Hartland Co., N.B. Born June 24th, 1946. He was a descendant of UEL who arrived N. America in 1670. As a child his post war family relocated to Bralorne Mines, and then on to Vancouver, where he graduated from UBC with BSC., Geology and later obtained his RPA. After a decade of being a Geologist in the North, he realized that a city job with a family was important. He was a dedicated Accountant with BC Forest Products before it closed down, He eventually opened McLennan &Co., Accountants in Garibaldi Highlands, which gave him the opportunity to serve his loyal cliental and he established many friends in the process.
Larry was a brilliant student and graduated from Killarney High School, where university was not a goal.He excelled at Math & Science, Journalism, but, his real passion was Athletics. He played on the Vancouver Blue Bombers Football team, the Cowichan Rugby Club, 4 Rinks Hockey, High school swim team, and he was a serious Body Builder, and jogger. Music was in third place where he excelled in band both at school and in the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets, based in Coal Harbour. Humour was a fault, and he was often thrown out of class for being a jokester. Joining Sigma Chi Fraternity at UBC, helped him to foster this hobby. He also wrote jokes in the Geology Newspaper, of which he was a founding member!
Volunteering, even at UBC, while dating Joy, he encouraged her brother, aged 5, to play hockey, and Larry became the coach. So began a mentorship and friendship that still lasts after 50 years. Service without accolades, in the Boy Scouts of Canada, hockey and soccer as a coach, for his 2 sons, was a pleasure. Becoming a member of the PAC was interesting. Joining the Lion.s Club of Canada, the Canadian Legion, and his twice a week Poker parties, gave him a rich life. Stepping up to run for SQUAMISH City Council was easy. Writing columns for papers were done in a flash. Blogging was stimulating. His last lines to me...I love my job, I love my clients, and I love helping...Now, don t be so hard on yourself.
Larry has undergone an Autopsy, with the results going to Science, as he had received many concussions and broken bones, in the times before helmets. Migraines are not to be ignored.
PLEASE DONATE to the Cancer Society of Canada, and the scientists, who dedicate their lives to finding a cure.Thank you Dr. Andrew Leask, Research Scientist, for your help and strength during these past few weeks. To ALL of Larry s clients and friends we wish to embrace you. Bouquets to Judy Mcquinn, Mike Quesnel, and Glenn Rickard CA, and his sister Donna, for bridging our Burden.
No Service, with thanks, Joy McLennan, family, formerly of Garibaldi Highlands.
