Lyon, Marjorie Louva (nee McLean) passed away peacefully September 24th, 2017 at the age of 104. Born in Edmonton on May 14, 1913 to Harry and Louva McLean, Majorie was the eldest of six children. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband George Francis William Lyon (1971) and her brothers Donald and Stuart McLean. Marjorie is survived by her sisters Edith Anderson (Airdrie, AB) and Joyce Stannard(Ladysmith, BC), and brother Keith McLean (Calgary, AB).
Marjorie worked for the Edmonton Public Library during high school and after graduation until she married RCAF William Lyon. Following their return from Germany post WW2, Majorie and Bill settled in Ottawa where Marjorie worked for the Bank of Canada and then the Ottawa Public Library system. Upon retirement, Majorie settled on Vancouver Island.
Marjorie enjoyed travelling, particularly cruising. Hawaii was a favourite winter home. She enjoyed painting from an early age through her retirement. Through her painting and donations, wildlife advocacy was important to Marjorie. Marjorie’s recent donation to the Vancouver Island Mountain Air Rescue Society funded a rehabilitation flight building for recovering wild birds.
Marjorie will be buried in the gravesite of her parents at Edmonton’s Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
