It is with deep sadness that we announce that our husband, father and friend John passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He leaves behind his loving wife of 44 years, Marilyn; daughter Janice Gerbrandt (Terence); step-sons Ron Healy (Mary), and Mike Healy (Kris); six grandchildren: Gabriel, Samuel, Shannon, Michael, Israel, and Gabriel; as well as his close companion: "Buddy" the cat. He was predeceased by his parents; twin brother, Jim; and his very lucky pet dogs.
John's passion for fishing and the outdoors started at an early age in Ocean Falls. After moving to Crofton in his early teens he continued to pursue sports and outdoor activies such as fishing and hunting. He was an avid outdoorsman for as long as his health permitted.
After graduating from Cowichan District High School in 1962, John went on to work for BCFP Crofton where he became a Millwright. John worked at the mill until a stroke forced him to retire in 1990. Although he was plagued by health issues, he graciously accepted his new limitations and never lost his love of the outdoors.
John was very proud of all his children and grandchildren and took every opportunity to brag about them. Many visits with his health care workers were spent in this way.
Those who knew John in his later years will remember a gentle, content and courageous man who could contribute to a conversation while saying very little. Those who remember John in his early years will remember him saying a lot. All will remember his love of a good laugh.
John's Memorial Service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services, 375 Brae Rd, Duncan at 1pm on Saturday, March 10th.
