Joan M. Campbell

1929 - 2023

CAMPBELL, Joan M slipped away peacefully at Sunridge Place in Duncan, B.C. on December 16, 2023. Born in Vancouver, B.C. to Dr. Robert & Grace Cuthbert.

She graduated from Prince of Wales High School and attended U.B.C. and Normal School before starting her career in Education. Joan married Neil Campbell in 1951 and they set out on their journey together of 60 years. They resided in Fort Nelson and Kimberley early in their careers. Mom and Dad moved to the Cowichan Valley in the mid-1950’s and resided there until their passing.

Joan is survived by her five children: Sandy (Julie); Alastair (Brenda), Catherine (Rick), Jamie (Terry), and Janet; Grandchildren: Lindsay, Andrea, Ashley, Dylan, Caitlin, Heather, and Matt; Great Grandchildren: Ray, Jace and Fynn.

Predeceased by her husband Neil in 2011 as well as her brother Robert (Bob) Cuthbert and sister Wendy Beam.

Joan was a staunch supporter of the performing arts and served on the Cowichan Music Festival executive board for many years. She was also a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the South End Seniors group.

She took great enjoyment in watching her children and grandchildren participating and performing in festivals, recitals, and organized sports. Mom had varied interests including curling at Kerry Park, countless hours of playing Bridge with the Rickards, Gregorys, Joyces and Evanses; music of all kinds, pastel painting and flower arranging.

The family would like to thank the staffs at Wedgwood House and Sunridge Place for their excellent care and support of Mom while she resided there. We also want to thank the wonderful weekly companions from Angel Helping Hands – Stasha, Valerie (and dog Pepper), Bev and Bintu.

As per Mom’s wishes there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Cowichan Music Festival would be sincerely appreciated.
