Esther Katherine Simpson was born Feb.3, 1918 in Hatton Saskatchewan. She was one of ten children of Caroline Ott and Frederich Richter. The family moved to BC in 1938 and resided in Duncan. Esther worked at Kings Daughters Hospital where she met her future husband, George Simpson. They were married July 31, 1942 at the Richter family home in Glenora. They resided in Victoria and she worked for Boeing Aircraft during the remainder of the war as, “head rivet packer”. After the war ended they moved to Duncan for seven years where Esther loved to be surrounded by her siblings and their families. The couple returned to live in Victoria while George worked at Yarrows Shipyards.
Esther was the center of a strong family, a dedicated church member of Hope Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for 27 years and a wonderful mother and wife. Over the years she opened the family home to nieces, nephews and other family members from out of town as they spread their wings in the work-world or at university in Victoria. She worked tirelessly to create a warm home for all. In 1976 George retired and the couple moved to Ladysmith and then to Duncan for their retirement years.
She was preceded by George’s death in 2008. Also her siblings; Gerta, Marvin, Bill, Anna, Eddie, Harold, Albert and Adeline. Esther is survived by her sister, Edna Gibson of Duncan., son Clifford of Ladysmith and daughter Glenda of Yellow Point and their families. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother to all!
