Viola Pyette Miller, 103, of Duluth passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017. Viola was born in West Duluth on February 17, 1913 to Fred and Pauline Kersten. She graduated from Denfeld High School in 1930.
Viola was married to James “Chub” Pyette and John "Jack” Miller.
Viola was secretary for the Meat Cutters Union #12 for 17 years. She was involved in planning and organizing all of her high school reunions and hosted her 70th class reunion in 2000. After her retirement, she volunteered at St . Luke’s Hospital making puppets for 25 years. She also enjoyed traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brother, Kenneth Kersten; and son-in-law, Ralph Johnson.
Viola is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Jo) Johnson of Duluth; grandchildren, Donald (Theresa) Johnson of Esko, Richard (Becki) Johnson of Proctor, and Peggy (Roger) Gustofson of Hermantown; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and caregivers at Franciscan Health Center.
Visitation: 1:00 until the 2:00 p.m. funeral service Friday, January 6, 2017 at Mt. Olive English Lutheran Church, 2012 E. Superior Street, Duluth. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. In honor of Viola’s love for sweets, guests are invited for fellowship after the service to enjoy coffee and sweets in the church basement.
