He worked for 26 years as a route salesman and other positions for Pepsi Cola and 7-Up Bottling Companies. He was the designer and founder of Rolling Ruts Golf Course. He also worked part-time at Murphy Trucking and Diamond Tool. Vernon was involved in a number of areas over the years including; former Fredenberg school board treasurer, former vice president of Fredenberg PTA, charter member of Fredenberg Volunteer Fire Dept., and one time assistant chief and treasurer, and Fredenberg Community Center “theater” member. Vern had a renowned sense of humor to the very end. He used to be an avid reader of the Duluth News Tribune obituary columns and used to say that he was always glad not to find his name in there yet.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Vella Faye, Dolly, and Betty; grandson, Mike Montgomery, and his granddaughter, Amy Anderson; he was also preceded in death by his best friend, Stumpy.
Vernon is survived by his loving wife, Ilene Anderson of 70 years; loving children, Jeanne (Tom) Gearhart, Dianna Anderson (Joe), Steve (Lori) Anderson, Mike (Kriss) Anderson, Bruce (Bonnie) Anderson, and Kim Anderson; his loving grandchildren, Paula, Lisa, Aaron, Matthew, Royal, Nick and Zayne; and he is a loving GREAT grandfather of 11 GREAT grandkids; he is also survived by his sister, Alvina.
We are so happy that he is in his wonderful new home over the rainbow totally pain free, but for sure we miss him dearly.
Visitation: 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. Funeral Service on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at the Fredenberg Community Chapel.
