Dick grew up in West Duluth and graduated from Denfeld in 1944. After high school he served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946, serving on the submarine, USS Cabezon. Dick married his high school sweetheart, Betty Olson and they were happily married for 66 years.
He was a 1950 graduate of UMD and later in life he earned his Master’s Degree. After excelling in high school and college athletics, he went on to enjoy a teaching and coaching career in Freeborn, MN for 5 years and in Mt. Iron until retirement in 1983.
Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and operating the Cedars Resort with his family in Northome, MN, where many cherished memories were made.
In his retirement years, Dick and Betty returned to Duluth to enjoy the Lake Superior Life.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, William and Charlotte and son-in-Law, Cliff Meyer.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Betty; children, Julie Meyer of Wells, MN, David(Jean) Lundquist, of Sherburn, MN, and Diane(Jim) Clifford of Stanchfield, MN; 7grandchildren;4 great-grandchildren; brothers, William(Pat) Lundquist of Spokane, WA and Gordy(Marilyn) Lundquist of Duluth; sister, Connie(Howard) Norlin of Evansville, IN; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Bayshore and St. Luke’s Hospital.
Visitation: 10:00 until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service Thursday, July 9, 2015 at French River Lutheran Church, 5310 Ryan Road, Duluth.
