Raymond was born November 3, 1940 in Duluth to Raymond R. Sr., and Lovelle Paulson. He was a graduate of Hermantown High School. Ray was a member of the Operating Engineers, Local 49.
One of Ray’s proudest moments was being a part of the Duluth All American Hockey Team in 1958. They played in the National Championship game in Boston. Many photos of Ray can be seen at the Duluth Heritage Center.
Ray was an avid race car fan and a staple at the Proctor and Superior Speedways. He raced cars in his younger years. Ray was known for his story telling, his jokes, love of fishing, strong political views and was a giver of great nick names.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ray is survived by his children, Bonde (Linda) Smith, of Duluth, Lori (Mike) Davey, of Hermantown, Lynn (Kent) Girton, of Olathe, KS and Eric Paulson, of Duluth; five grandchildren, Michael, Elizabeth, Braden, Tiffany and Brittany; his sister, Rosemary (Thomas) Sakal, of W. Palm Beach, FL; other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of Essentia/St. Mary’s Hospice for their kindness and consideration toward Ray and the family.
