Marvin was born July 27, 1934 in Jackson, MN. He was the first born child and grew up on a farm with his parents Henry and Blanche (Schlager) Harries, along with three sisters and a brother.
Marv came to Duluth in 1950 under the advice of his doctor to help with his extreme hay fever condition. He escaped the heat but not the love of his life. He married Margaret “Marge” Anderson on June 9, 1956. This was of course the hottest day on record. They made their home together in Bay View Heights, just outside of Proctor, where they have lived ever since.
In Duluth Marv worked at Western Electric, Diamond Tool and then 29 ½ years at Minnesota Power, until his retirement in 1995. At M.P.& L. he was known as “The Rubber Man” because he tested rubber gloves and blankets that kept co-workers, especially linemen, safe. Marv was hard working and enjoyed time outside with gardening, at car shows, grilling in the garage and on his John Deere tractor.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marge; his son, Keith A. (Teresa) Harries of Hermantown and daughter, Susan M. (Steven) Baker, of Duluth; five grandchildren, Kraig Harries, of Duluth, Amanda Harries, of Hermantown, Sarah, Shannon and Jackson Baker, of Duluth; sisters, Doris (Richard) Elness, of Windom, MN, Bonnie (Gary) Natterstad, of Jackson, MN, Shirley (Larry) Libra, of Windom, MN and his brother, Roger (Dawn Olson) Harries, of Finlayson, MN; and many uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.
In his final days, Marv was blessed to have the support of his family and the caring staff of St. Mary’s / Essentia Hospice and Solvay Hospice House.
