Karen Annette LaLonde

Karen Annette LaLonde, 70, of Proctor died peacefully surrounded by her family Sunday, November 30, 2014 in her home after a short battle with cancer. Karen was born June 16,1944 in Duluth to Roy and Elma (Sorvari) Tuomi.

She was born in Duluth and raised in Proctor and graduated from Proctor High School. In 1963 she married Donald Spindler and started a family.

Some of Karen’s accomplishments were going back to school where she received her Bachelor’s in accounting from Lake Superior College, then later went to work for St. Louis County Social Services where she retired.

She was a very family oriented woman and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Karen often could be found decorating her house, gardening, and spending time with her beloved dogs. She also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino and many cruises.

Karen was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald Spindler and George LaLonde; parents, Roy and Elma; brother, Roy “Butch” Tuomi; and grandson, Justin ”J.P.”

She will be greatly missed by her son, Chuck (Julie McMann) Spindler of Cloquet; daughter, Kim (Jason) Aronson of Proctor; grandchildren, Matthew (Tania) Waldal of Red Lake Falls, Mark (Tashia Nickaboine) Waldal of Thief River Falls, Joshua (Cassy) Jordan of Duluth, Mysti (Josh Mishler) Peterson of Duluth, Kreytt (Chianne Chene) and Kanyon (Ari Alvarez) Slocum of Shakopee, and Karissa and Savanah McMann of Duluth; and great grandchildren, Cody, Madilyn, Gavin, Kaydence, Emma, Justin, Audryaunna, and Noah; brothers, Jim (Diane) Tuomi of Proctor, Rick (Sherry) Tuomi of Duluth, Ron (Sue) Tuomi of Duluth; and sister, Carolyn (Terry) Inman of Proctor; sister-in-law, Sue Tuomi of Scandia.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday December, 4, 2014 in Bell Brothers Funeral Home, 601 North 56th Avenue West. Visitation will continue from 10 until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service Friday, December 5, 2014 in Bell Brothers Funeral Home. Interment will be held in Oneota Cemetery.
