Joyce was born in Proctor on December 20, 1923 to Clifford and Mabel (Helmer) Emberg, Sr. She graduated from Proctor High School class of 1941 and went on to study at the Young & Hirsch Business School for a couple of years. Afterwards she worked as a clerk for the DM&IR railroad. She was united in marriage to Marvin Brenna on September 8, 1948. During the years following she worked at Holy Trinity Church, Orthopedic Associates and the Proctor Credit Union. After retiring she enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the United States and abroad. She also enjoyed camping on the Temperance River and spending time knitting and sewing. Born on the west side of Proctor she was a “True Proctorite.” She was a member of the Proctor Historical Society, Legion Auxiliary and Immanuel Lutheran Church. Joyce adored her family and friends. She will be remembered and deeply missed for her kind heart, her listening ear and generous nature.
She is preceded in death by her husband Marvin in 2000; her parents and great-grandson Jack Ryan Swanson.
Joyce is survived by three children, David (Christine) Brenna of Proctor; Kristine Lyons of Moose Lake and Kathy Wolffe of Duluth Township; four grandchildren, Chad (Becky) Brenna, Nicole Swanson, Becky Wolffe and Adam Wolffe; five great-grandchildren, Jessica Taylor, Ian and Sam Swanson and Cole and Owen Brenna; three brothers, Kermit (Pat) Emberg, Clifford Emberg, Jr. both of Duluth Township and Duane (Joan) Emberg of Tazmania as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff and residents at Heritage Haven for all of their kindness and compassionate care.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Bell Brothers Funeral Home 601 N. 56th Ave. W. and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, July 15, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church 614 2nd St. Proctor. Interment will be in Oneota Cemetery.
