Jerry was a very happy man and loved to visit with people. He had many lifelong friends and was liked by everyone. If you couldn't find him outside working on some yard project he was probably sitting on his favorite chair watching his favorite TV
shows. His philosophy, “Never lie, cheat, or steal,” was simple but never forgotten by everyone who had the privilege to call him a friend.
Jerry was born in Duluth, MN on May 21, 1943. He attended Central High School. After High School he served in the Army, 101st Airborne Division, where he earned both Airborne and Ranger tabs.
In May 1973, he found his calling, when he became one of Duluth Police Department’s finest police officers, and became known as Cully. Cully founded the Police K-9 Association for Duluth and became the first K-9
Officer in Duluth history. He was thoroughly respected throughout the county for his knowledge, skill, and experience working with police K-9s. Many of the K-9s he trained became nationally known for their excellent work within Police K-9 Association.
Cully was a member of the first SWAT team for the Duluth Police Department and was an avid hockey player for the department as well. In 1990 he retired from the police department with a long fulfilling career.
He loved his career. However, he loved watching his children grow even more. Wanda was his baby girl and stayed close to him in Duluth until his death. His son, Jerry followed in his footsteps, joined the Army, retired 20 years later and now lives in Duluth. His other son, Scott, joined the Army National Guard and currently has 13 years as a Law Enforcement Officer
and lives in California.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; Hilding and Margaret Larson, Brothers; Wallace Larson, Dale Larson; Sisters, Corrine Sanvig (Selmar) and twin Janice Heidman (Paul).
Jerry is survived by his children; Wanda Larson, Jerry Larson (Dee) and Scott Larson (Martha), grandchildren; Logan Larson, Chase Larson, and Chance Larson, sisters; Linda Larson and Ramona Kingham; and best friend, Gloria Larson.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 28th, from 3-5pm at Bell Brothers Funeral Home, 601 N. 56th Ave. W. in Duluth.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in his name to the Duluth Police K-9 Fund, Attn: Gordon Ramsay, at 211 W. 1st. St., Duluth MN, 55802.
