Herman E Ziemer, 96, of Buhl, ID died September 18 2014. Herman was born in Duluth MN on November 11, 1917 and was a resident of Minnetonka, MN and Tucson, AZ. Former employee of Dayton's Men Shoes, Minneapolis for 27 years.
Member of Albert Pike Lodge, Hopkins, MN and Zuhrah Shrine,Minneapolis, Scottish Rite Temple and Sabbar Shrine of Tucson, AZ, and Elkora Shrine Club, Twin Falls.
Herman was an avid gardener and spent many hours in his greenhouse, where he grew vegetables and his prize roses all year long. His spectacular banana plant was the largest in Idaho. His infectious smile and twinkling eyes could always be heard in his voice, it just made you happy. Herman's other passion was helping out wherever he was needed. He volunteered with the Shrine Children's Hospital, completing projects as needed for fundraisers. He did many behind the scenes projects for the Tucson Shrine, the West End Senior Center in Buhl and was always working with the Idaho festival, Trailing of the Sheep and the Twin Falls Festival of Trees, held every year to benefit families without the means to have a Christmas. He never asked for a thank you or praise, he just did what was needed.
Preceded in death by parents Emil and Emma Ziemer, brother George and sister Lydia.
Survived by sisters, Arlene and Carol Ziemer and Ruth Peterson of Duluth; daughters, Sherry (Ray) Hoem of Buhl, Gwen Sams of Isanti, MN and son Scott (Beth) of Excelsior, MN. Grandchildren are Shawn, Jennifer, Tammy, Christy, Brandon, Jordan, Joshua, Adam, Carlye and Cody; great-grandchildren, Chase, Shelby, Holly Jo, Sierra, Allana, Raiden, Payton and Aunika and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Oct 25th, 10 AM at Christ Lutheran Church, Duluth with burial at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery.
Memorials will be directed to the West End Senior Center, Buhl, ID where Herman exercised 3 times a week for several years. They are the senior outreach and provide seniors with many outlets and activities.
Our special thanks to the Idaho Home, Health & Hospice, Twin Falls. The compassionate and dedicated staff (Terry , Cale, Pastor Paul and others) provided our family with support and comfort as we guided our dad through his final days with dignity. A special thanks to Bob Isabelle who has been dad's companion for the last 2 ½ years.
