Guy W. Olsen

Guy was born September 16, 1932 to Albert and Jennie (Nestdahl) Olsen and was a 1950 graduate of Proctor High School. On October 26, 1955, Guy married Fern Marion Lindholm.

Guy was a master bricklayer. He began his career while still in high school and retired in 1991. He served with the Duluth Naval Reserve Unit from 1950 to 1958. Guy was a 50+ member of Trinity Blue Lodge #282 and received his 50 year pin from the Bricklayers Union. Guy was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church and a member of the Pike Lake Association. He was an extremely avid golfer and had made a hole in one twice. Guy enjoyed the outdoors, especially sailing, pontooning, jet skiing, and tube puller for his grandson and his friends on Pike Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Guy is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Fern; daughters, Cheryl (Robert) Ekstrand, of Pike Lake and Deb (Frank) Messina, of Duluth; his grandson, Michael (Jamie Jauss) Messina, of Duluth; brother, Dick (June) Olsen, of Pike Lake; nieces Pauline and Patti Ann; many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to Essentia (S.M.M.C.) Cancer Center or Solvay Hospice House. The family sincerely thanks Dr. Lloyd Ketchum and his staff, the kind and dedicated staff of Solvay Hospice House and Hospice Care Nurse, Marie.

Visitation 5:00 – 7:00pm Tuesday, December 7th in the Jarvi Dowd Funeral Chapel and will continue from 12:00 noon until the 1:00pm funeral service Wednesday, December 8th in First Lutheran Church, 1100 E. Superior St. Interment will be at Sunrise Memorial Park, Hermantown.
