Bette (Elizabeth) S (Dodge) Jacobs died peacefully at home Wednesday, October 21, 2015 surrounded by her five children. She was born Nov. 19, 1927 in Duluth, MN to Willis and Martha Dodge. She graduated from Central High School in 1945, attended Duluth Business College, and subsequently worked at Western Electric. She met, and then married Howard Jacobs in 1948. Together they built a home and family on Park Point, where they lived together for almost 67 years.
Over the years Bette was active in the Park Point Community Club and Garden Club, a local bowling league, and led a local Girl Scouts troop. St. Andrew’s by-the-Lake Episcopal Church was central to her life. She filled many roles there over the years, from choir director to treasurer; and with the women of the church organized smorgasbord dinners and Advent lunches to feed the community. Professionally, she was chief financial advisor and vice-president of Foster, Jacobs & Johnson Consulting Engineers for many years.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Walter, Myron and Bill Dodge, and her husband, Howard.
Surviving her are her children: Jocelyn (Roger) Bergstedt, Cynthia (Peter) Kotila, Candace (Marc) Ginsberg, Laura Jacobs, and Charles (Katherine) Jacobs; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
