Earl E. Shovein, 87, of Proctor died peacefully Feb. 9 at St. Lukes Hospital. He was born July 24, 1927 in Duluth. Earl served in the Navy in WWII. He was employed by the DM&IR Railroad for 42 years.
Earl and his wife Lucille were married for 67 loving years and raised eight children. Earl was a member of Proctor St. Rose Parish since his baptism in 1927. He enjoyed many hours fixing things there. He also served St. Rose as Scout Master for eight years and was awarded the Silver Scout Trophy. He also was a member of St. Rose Men’s Club and a lifetime member of American Legion Post 106.
Whenever you met Earl, you got a hug whether you liked it or not.
Earl was preceded in death by his son, Richard in 2003; his parents; two sisters; and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy; sons, Gerald (Ester), Robert (Barb), Philip (Jeanette), and John; daughters, Linda (Craig) Larsen, Mary Bogenholm, and Joanne Shovein; 14 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Visitation: 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, Feb. 14 at St. Rose Catholic Church. Interment will be at Oneota Cemetery. Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard.
