Clifford “Bud” Price Emberg, Jr., 89, of Midway Township, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November. 14, 2015. Bud was born on September 10, 1926 in Proctor, Minnesota to Clifford Price Emberg, Sr. and Mabel Helmer Emberg. He graduated from Proctor High School in 1944. He married Carol Sonnenburg on Oct. 28, 1948.
Bud was a veteran who served in the Navy during World War II. He completed boot camp in Farragut, Idaho and served at the Naval Air Training Center in Norman, Oklahoma and Fleet Air Wing 16, in Recife, Brazil. Bud was discharged as Aviation Ordnanceman, 3rd class, on June 14, 1946.
Bud was also a proud third generation railroad worker. Throughout his career with the DM&IR Railroad, Bud held all the jobs in the transportation department, including ore checker, ore sorter, car controller, and assistant train master. He retired as train master in 1982 after 40 years of service.
Bud was a member of the Proctor Area Historical Society, Proctor American Legion, the DM&IR Veterans Employees Association, Missabe Railroad Historical Society, Proctor Volunteer Fire Department and a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Proctor. Throughout his life he enjoyed cutting grass, shoveling sand, fishing, hunting, camping, Pug’s Club, sports, traveling the world with Carol, and family gatherings.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of almost 58 years, Carol; son, Robert Emberg; granddaughter, Becky Johnson; and sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Marvin Brenna.
He is survived by his children, Tom and Jan Emberg, Jan and David McLeod, Nancy and Jack Eilefson, and Linda Emberg; grandchildren, Cliff Emberg, Theresa and Courtney Watson, Katie and Maged Hashem, Emily and Craig Chapinski, Maggie and Chris Shovein, Michael McLeod, and Sarah Eilefson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kermit “Coke” and Pat Emberg and Duane “Buck” and Joan Emberg; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Susan and Don Farrell; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bud's family would like to thank the St. Luke's Hospital staff on 7West and 2West for their care and concern. Special thanks to Geralyn, his wonderful home care nurse who helped him stay at home for as long as he did.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Proctor Area Historical Society or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 5-7 pm Friday, November, 20th at Bell Brothers Funeral Home, 601 N. 56th Ave. W., Duluth.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, November 21st at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 614 2nd Street, Proctor, with a visitation one hour prior at the church.
