Clifford John Dahl “Cliff”, 99, of Duluth passed away peacefully surrounded by family Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Ecumen Lakeshore. He was born March 3, 1917 to John and Carrie (Anderson) Dahl in Duluth. Cliff grew up in the Duluth area and graduated from Denfeld High School and the University of Minnesota Duluth with honors.
Cliff loved and married two women in his life: Martha Klang in 1939, and they celebrated 56 years together; after Martha’s passing, Cliff married Charlyne Johnson in 1996, and they celebrated their 21st anniversary in January.
He worked at several jobs, including the Steel Plant, and he spent many years working at Nopeming as assistant administrator.
Cliff was a member of the American Legion, Toast Masters, Trinity Masonic Lodge #282, and the Trinity Chapter #242 order of the Eastern Star.
In Cliff’s younger years, he liked to golf, fish, dance, play cards, and garden and he especially loved remembering those times and sharing them with his family and friends.
Cliff was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha; three sisters, Doris, Bertha, and Grace; grandson, John Richard Cook Jr.; great-granddaughter, Frannie O-Meara; and step-son, William Johnson.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Charlyne; children Roger (Cathy) Dahl, Robert (Kay) Dahl, and Joanne (John) Cook; nine grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; six step-children; and many grand, great, and great-great step grandchildren; brothers, Max (Beverley) Semmelroth, Jim Semmelroth, and Al (Donna) Semmelroth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the “Agape Fund” at Forbes United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank Ecumen Lakeshore for their loving care of Cliff.
