Age 82, longtime resident of Duluth, passed away peacefully Friday, September 2, 2011 at Essentia-St. Mary’s Hospital Hospice.
Clarence was born April 15, 1929 in Two Harbors to Carl and Lillian (Wick) Overby. From 1946 to 1950 he worked for D.M. & I. R. Railroad as a pipe fitter. Clarence served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954, during the Korean War. On February 28, 1959 Clarence married Donna Mae Garthus.
After returning from the service Clarence moved to Duluth and worked in construction. In 1962 he joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, ending up as a dredge operator, working around the Great Lakes as the dredge moved.
Clarence was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. He especially enjoyed shore casting up the North
Shore and camping with his family. He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage.
He was preceded in death by a loving granddaughter, Sarah Ann; his parents; and four brothers, Otto, Harold, Norman and Raymond.
Clarence is survived by his loving wife, Donna; three children, Forrest (Cheryl), Robin, all of Duluth and Karla (Kelly) Cresap, of Cloquet; six grandchildren, Katie (Troy) Foucault, of Proctor, Kristi, Kayla and Kara Cresap, all of Cloquet, Jarad and Rebekah Overby, of Duluth; three great-grandchildren, Cameron, Ty and Gabe; many other relatives and friends.

Visitation from 11:00am until the 12:00 noon funeral service Saturday, September 10th at Norton Park United Methodist Church, 436 N. 79th Ave. W. Burial will be at Oneota Cemetery.
