Arlene Elizabeth (Mattson) Ide, 88 of Hermantown went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014 at Viewcrest Health Center. Arlene was born July 15, 1926 to Albin and Martha Mattson of Duluth. Arlene graduated at the top of her class from Proctor High School. She went
on to work at Kelly Howe Thompson as a secretary. She married Russell E. Ide on Oct. 21,1949 in her family home in Proctor.
Arlene was raised and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church. She moved with her husband and children
to Hermantown and became a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church in Hermantown . She was active in the various
church circles at Salem and volunteered as needed She belonged to the neighborhood garden club, enjoyed playing cards, and loved going to garage sales.
She was an avid sports fan and loved listening to the Twins and Duluth Dukes games. She loved polka music on the radio on Saturday nights or any time for that matter. She took pride in raising Her family. She was a wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother; that was all she ever wanted to be. She found her greatest joy in family functions and doing things for others.
Arlene was the oldest of 10 children and went on to raise seven children of her own. Her family was the center of her life. Arlene never complained and kept a positive outlook on everything regardless of the circumstances.
Arlene is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell; brother, Frank and sister, Carol.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Janet (Jim Rutherford) Williamson of Duluth and Dianne (Jim) Fisher of Duluth; sons, Ronald,Steven (Kathy), Mark (Joan), and Corey of Hermantown, and Bradley of Ventura, Calif.; her nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; with another baby girl on the way. She also leaves behind her three brothers, Byron, Carl, and John; and her four sisters, Berit, Ruthie, Anna and Marion; and much loved family member Darlene Ide.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown to Arlene during her stay at Viewcrest Health Center.
