Tony was born May 11, 1928 in Duluth to Anthony and Ellen (Landgren) Stauber. Tony graduated from Denfeld High School in 1946 and was in the first graduating class from University
of Minnesota Duluth. He married Margie Anne Nygaard in June 1949. He was a longtime resident of Lester Park. He served in Japan during WWII. Following the war, he became part of the Army Reserve Unit on Park Point, retiring as a captain in 1988 in the capacity as company commander. During his service, he was decorated with numerous awards and medals. He was a proud and an active member of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA). Tony was with the Duluth
Public Schools as a vocational education teacher and administrator from 1951 until his retirement in 1988 . He then continued his service to education as a school board member. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a very active lay leader, most recently on the board of property management. He was active with Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Master for Troop 50 for 30 years and a recipient of the Silver Beaver and Lamb awards.
He will be remembered for his love of hunting at his shack, Stew Mulligan's, time spent with his family at the cabin on Island Lake, and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margie (Nygaard) Stauber; brothers Edward, Lawrence and Richard; and sisters, Marguerite, Lorrain and Elizabeth.
Tony is survived by daughters Anne (Dan) Klenow of Fargo, MN. and Julie (Dan) Jordan of Hibbing, MN; sons Jim Stauber (Joan Christensen) of Duluth and Tom (Karen) Stauber of Chaska,MN; grandchildren Tom and Nick Klenow, Amy and Michael Jordan, Ryan (Asia), Eric, Matt, and Rachael Stauber, and Anna, Ted, Tony and Abe Stauber; brothers, Del (Jean) and Ron Stauber, both of Duluth; sister-in-law, Claudia Cohen; brothers-in-law, Don Nygaard and Jim (Pat) Nygaard; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to thank Lakeshore At Home for their compassionate and dedicated care.
Visitaiton: 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 16 until the 2 p.m. Funeral Service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1108 E. 8th St., Duluth. Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America or Trinity Lutheran Church.
