William Hill was born to Walter and Marion (Roberts) Hill on June 20, 1931, in Struthers, Ohio. He was a talented baseball pitcher and played in the minor league. He met his wife of 66 years, Edna Clabaugh of Newton Falls Ohio, while playing trumpet in the VFW band. Both he and Edna were avid Ohio State University sports fans. Mr. Hill attended The Ohio State University and Kent State University before marrying Edna in 1952. He also served in the Naval Reserves and was stationed in the Great Lakes region. Both he and Edna enjoyed traveling both nationally and abroad throughout their marriage.
Following university, he began his career in environmental sciences, managing and designing wastewater treatment facilities for over 38 years. He wrote 35 papers on the operation and maintenance of water treatment plants and personnel training. He was a subject matter expert for the EPA in congressional hearings. In 1970 William joined the private sector to establish an Operations and Maintenance Group that was involved in facility operations and personnel throughout Ohio. In 1980 he joined Camp Dresser & McKee Inc. as Vice-President which then expanded his work into other domestic and international areas. Mr. Hill received numerous awards throughout his career, and he was an active member/past-president of the Water Pollution Control Federation, the American Water Works Association, and other environmental engineering societies.
William is survived by his four children; Karen (Dennis) Heyob, Sharon Hill (Tom Sherry), David (Donna) Hill, and Donald (Qua) Hill. He is also survived by his three sisters Bea Durham, Ruth Beatty and Linda Hobbins. He had five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A special thank you to the staff at Avalon of Lewis Center Assisted Living facility, Suncrest Hospice and many friends for their loving care and support during his final days.
