Paige Chapman-Layland, 54, of Columbus, Ohio, died peacefully the morning of April 29, 2023, surrounded by family, beloved friends, and her dog, Sally. Paige succumbed to glioblastoma multiforme, a cancer of the brain.
Paige was born April 7, 1969, in Philadelphia, PA, to Don and Jean Chapman [both deceased]. She is survived by her husband Albert Chapman-Layland, her outstanding daughter Astrid Chapman-Layland, her brothers Dane and Brett Chapman, and her dog, Sally. She is predeceased by her son, Elliott Chapman-Layland.
Paige is a graduate of Florida State University, with degrees in psychology and elementary education.
Paige’s impact on the lives of others and her community was remarkable. She was devoted to children, and that devotion blossomed after the adoption of her daughter Astrid, from Ethiopia. Paige built a local and nationwide community of Ethiopian adoptive families, developed deep connections to the community of East African immigrants in central Ohio, and helped found Ethiopian Orphan Relief, dedicated to improving the lives of children who remained in Ethiopia.
Paige had boundless energy and enthusiasm for life. She was an avid cook; she enjoyed listening to music, especially They Might Be Giants, celebrating holidays, driving Astrid and Elliott around the country for fencing, attending dance and other live performances, spending time outdoors and in museums, and, most importantly, having Friday movie night with Astrid, Albert, and Sally. She will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Schoedinger Dublin on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 1pm which can also be watched live under the "Services" tab below. A visitation will continue after the service from 2-4pm. Astrid and Albert have established the Paige Chapman-Layland Memorial Fund, https://ethiotss.kindful.com/?campaign=1250298 with the help of our friends at ETSS and we welcome donations in lieu of flowers.
