It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Eugene Zazon, who departed this world on February 2, 2024. His 67-year journey, rich with a steadfast love for God and his family, passion for sports, love for music, and a deep-rooted affinity for all things Michigan, has left an enduring legacy that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was born on June 2, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan. He grew up on 7 Mile Rd. shooting pucks in his homemade backyard ice rink and spent endless summer days playing baseball on a neighborhood field. All of that paid off when Detroit Country Day High School recruited him on a sports scholarship where he would go on to be drafted by the Detroit Tigers. He graduated from Wayne State University, earned his Master’s Degree from the Stonier School of Banking at the University of Delaware, and retired after a 25-year banking career. Mike loved golf, running, fishing, and was an excellent craftsman.
Faith in God and family were his foundation. He coached every sport all 6 kids played and his words of wisdom were always a breath away. He served as President of Ohio Premier Soccer Club and spent countless hours fundraising to move hockey forward in Columbus. Mike and Sue opened their home to billet 8 hockey players over the past 10 years and their home was the destination for countless celebrations and family Olympics. Singing in a rock band was on his bucket list and at 55, he taught himself harmonica, keyboards and sang backup vocals in the band Mid Life Crisis. Although he never served, he had an unwavering respect for our military, celebrated by accompanying veterans on Honor Flight. He cherished family vacations in Northern Michigan eventually finding a cabin on Big Platte Lake to create lasting memories for generations to come.
Mike was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, coach and friend to many. He will be remembered for his world class smile and willingness to help others pursue their dreams. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Eugene Zazon and sister, Judith Dunn. His memory will be kept alive by his wife Sue; his children Michael (Hanna), Catherine, Christine (Braden) Silcott, Samantha (Marty) Shea, Mikayla, and Matthew; his cherished grandchildren, Charlie, William, Olivia, Thomas, and Forrest; and his loving sister, Karen Zazon.
