Michael Lee Burns, age 58, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023 at his home in Hilliard, OH after a very brief illness. Michael was born December 19, 1964 in Gallipolis, Ohio, the youngest son of Jack W. and Peggy L. Burns.
Michael grew up in Oak Hill, OH, graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1983, and attended The Ohio State University and Rio Grande College. He married Jeannie Surface on May 2, 1993 at a ceremony held at the home of his grandparents C. Albert & Freda L. Burns in Jackson, OH. He joined Immediate Health Associates (IHA) in 2002 and spent the rest of his working career there.
Michael leaves behind his wife Jeannie (Surface) Burns, children Nicholas and Max also of Hilliard, OH, brother Scott (Rob) of Dublin, OH, mother-in-law Mary Huston of Oak Hill, OH, sister-in-law Tammy (Randy) Hughes of Oak Hill, OH, many close friends, and his IHA family.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents Jack W. and Peggy L. Burns, grandparents C. Albert and Freda L. Burns and his canine companion Vincent Price Burns (Vinny).
Michael adored movies—especially off-beat titles that would be unfamiliar to many—and he really enjoyed talking about how the films were made. His greatest passion was for the horror genre. He loved directors George Romero and Stanley Kubrick. His ability to recall every detail about going to see a particular movie was remarkable as he could remember the theater where he saw the film, who he saw it with, and even reminisce about the after-movie conversations. Mike was an avid fan of the Ramones, the Bengals, the Reds, and the Buckeyes. He loved his family, friends, and co-workers.
Special thanks to his IHA co-workers Kirk Hummer and Joyce Miller for their compassionate care and assistance. Contributions in Michael’s memory can be made to Pelotonia (https://www.pelotonia.org/donate) or Columbus Humane (https://www.columbushumane.org/give).
To honor Michael’s wishes, there will be no service. A life celebration will be held later for close friends and family. Arrangements are under the direction of Schoedinger Dublin Chapel, Dublin, OH.
