David Matthew Bush of Delaware, Ohio was born in Wooster on August 8, 1973. He grew up on a farm outside of Big Prairie and graduated from West Holmes High School in 1992. After studying one year at Western State in Colorado, he returned to attend Ohio University, where he met the love of his life, Erin (Fritz) Bush from Cincinnati, Ohio. He made her laugh every day for 25 years and together they created a beautiful life, made complete by children Emily Kristin (19) and Jack Matthew (17).
For 25 years, Matt worked at Rocky Brands as a sales representative. The relationships he forged with his colleagues and accounts brought him great joy, as well as working in a field he loved, the great outdoors. Matt spent countless hours hunting, fishing, spending time in the woods, and teaching others how to enjoy those things too. From church, to school sports teams, to the neighborhood, Matt was always “all in.”
No one loved and lived like Matt Bush. He had a way of filling up the room with his warm and inviting personality and he truly never met a stranger. He had a twinkle in his beautiful blue eyes and made everyone he met feel seen and valued. With Matt, every new face quickly became a friend. Matt loved with sincerity, loyalty and intensity. His sense of humor and love of adventure were always present, right up until the end of his life.
Matt cast his last line on August 24, 2024 after his second battle with cancer. He fought valiantly to stay with his family and friends who meant everything to him. He is survived by his wife and children, along with his parents Dave and Linda Bush of Big Prairie, his sister and biggest cheerleader Kristi (Jason) Brooks of Logan, Ohio, nephews Will (Storee) Brooks and Wes Brooks, mother and father-in law Bernie and Barb Fritz of Cincinnati, sister-in-law Emily (Chad) Boggs, nephews Mitchel, Troy and Rex Boggs, niece Lucy Boggs, brother-in-law Zachary (Cara) Fritz, and nieces Heidi and Harley Fritz.
This world would be a better place if everyone lived a little more like Matt Bush. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 31st at “noon o’clock” at Liberty Presbyterian Church, 7080 Olentangy River Road in Delaware, Ohio. We encourage those who attend to wear their Sunday best and make it colorful - this is a celebration of his life!
