Jon is survived by his loving wife Chelsea, children Damien and Evelyn, mother and stepfather Teri and Larry Kellam, sister Addison Stein, stepbrother Chip (Laura) Kellam, step-sisters Carley Baker, and Sydney Baker (Ryan), Grandmother Betty Stein, Mother- and Father-in-law Donna and Jim Drake, along with sisters- and brothers-in-law Ellie (Chris) Barte and Abbey (Alec) Motter, nephews and nieces Tucker, Drake, Tate and Alaina, a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins and great friends. He was preceded in death by his father Mark Stein.
Jon was born in Cincinnati, OH on October 30, 1988. As early as Jon’s attendance at St. Xavier High School, he found an interest in politics, philosophy, and social justice, even traveling as far as Columbus, Georgia to protest the School of Americas with his fellow students. Jon’s interest in politics continued through his college career at Ohio University and DePaul University.
Jon moved to Columbus in 2015 and married Chelsea Drake, the love of his life, in 2017. The couple have two bright and beautiful children who have inherited Jon’s bright and warm demeanor.
Jon’s thirst for knowledge, often regarding obscure and complex topics, made him a brilliantly engaging person to talk to, and often a level-headed but spirited debater. He was an avid music fan who loved the energy and community of live concerts as much as he loved listening to albums at home with his friends and family. As a devoted, loving father, he would spread his passion for music and high value of friendship to his children at an early age.
Most importantly, Jon was loved by his family and a wide yet tightly knit group of friends. An exuberant champion for the people he cared for, Jon had a prankster side and a contagious laugh. Every room was lit up simply by Jon’s presence.
A visitation for Jon will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Dr, Dublin Oh 43017, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM. After the service, the family welcomes anyone to join them for an informal gathering to celebrate Jon’s life at the “party barn” at 8088 McKitrick Rd. Plain City 43064. Food and drinks will be available.
