Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 17, 1934, John was son to the late John and Jean (Herold) Adriansen and brother to the late Judy (Adriansen) Sherman. After graduating from Purcell Marian High School, he attended the University of Cincinnati where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering and was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. Following graduation, John went to work for the jet engine division of GE until he began a career with IBM in 1964.
John married Barbara Sollberger in 1959 and together began their family legacy which includes two children, a beloved daughter-in-law and son-in-law (who John also treated as his children), eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. John spent most of his working career with IBM in Columbus, Ohio where he developed a life-long kinship with his associates. After retiring at the age of 57, John and Barbara were able to enjoy even more time with their children & grandchildren. Their constant presence will be forever remembered by each member of their family as they attended countless sporting events, graduation ceremonies, dance recitals, birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions.
John was appreciated by so many in his various roles in life. As a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, many experienced his wonderful attributes. His other-centeredness, sense of humor, friendliness, genuine concern, and generosity grew through the years and blessed those who knew him. Even though John was almost always the one taking the pictures or contributing without being noticed, he tasted the most joy when he witnessed those he cared for enjoying life and doing well.
John is survived by his wife Barbara (Sollberger), his son Steve (Kathy), his daughter Jennifer (Dan) Gregory, cherished granddaughters Rachel and Olivia (Kyle) Ptacek, beloved grandsons Daniel, James (Jeanetta), Nathan, Samuel, David, Jonathan, and adored great-grandchildren Charlie, Evelyn, and Sophia Ptacek.
Visiting hours will be on Saturday, February 18 from 10-11 a.m. at the Schoedinger Funeral Home, 5980 Perimeter Dr. Dublin, OH 43017, and will be followed immediately by a celebration of life service at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift can be sent in John’s memory to a ministry founded by his daughter and son-in-law: Restore Addiction Recovery, a ministry helping men struggling with drug and alcohol addiction transform their lives. https://restoreaddictionrecovery.com/donate/
