Doug was my first manager at Bank of America and helped to change my life and my family’s life. He was always there when I needed him and fought to help me advance with the company. Every time I called Doug over the years he picked up and was generous with his time and advice. I was very lucky to have Doug in my life and to call him a friend and mentor. Rest easy Doug you WILL be missed..

Toots Tim Linda Stella and Doug's extended family: 
Thomas and Mary Lynn and I are heartbroken by the loss of Doug. Our friend since childhood. Our trips to Dublin in  the early days after Doug moved from Hubbard were always full of fun as he was a great host. His visits to see us in Florida after we moved were luckily frequent because Joe and Toots had moved nearby. Doug was out with us the night Thomas proposed to me. He was at our wedding. He attended our baby Mary Lynn's baptism. The day we learned of his passing, Mary Lynn (now 30 years old) asked if we could go to Kelly's restaurant in Naples for dinner and order Bombay Sapphire martinis "shaken not stirred" in honor of Doug.  She remembered a night out that our family had with Doug when she was only 4 years old. He ordered the Bombay martini which lead to a comedy of errors by the bartender; the final result being Doug behind the bar making it himself accompanied by loads of laughter. A memory Mary Lynn never forgot! Thank you Doug for all of the wonderful times that you shared with us. Rest in peace dear friend. Thomas Susan and Mary Lynn Skruck.

I was fortunate to live with Doug for many years in the mid to late 80's. He was the warmest, most welcoming, funny with the sharpest wit, best friend that I ever had! I send my condolences to his family.

We had so much fun together from playing softball for the Bier Stube, (he was "Cy" Giblin for pitching), bar tending at the Faculty Club, Bier Stube, and Holiday Inn for OSU tailgates, to Doug sharing his Mom's awesome wedding soup and other delicious treats when he would return home from seeing his parents "Toots" and Joe, to raising the puppies from his beloved Dalmatian Maggie, to leading us in singing "Up the Lazy River" at our various friends weddings while we drank Champaign out of the brides shoe, to his signature last call statement: "If you don't work here or sleep with someone who does, GO HOME!"...  Doug was the absolute best and made life better by knowing him!

I am saddened by the news of Doug’s passing. I lived with Doug for a year at OSU and bartended with him at The OSU Faculty Club. While I had not been in contact with Doug for many years, my memories  are clear of his intelligence, quick wit, and ability to make everyone laugh. His soft side was evident through his love of his OSU dog, Maggie. Doug was simply a good guy. My thoughts are with Doug’s family and friends.

I am so sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. I hardly have a childhood memory that doesn’t include Doug.  A flood of memories, laughter and antics came rushing back.  I haven’t seen Doug in years. The last time I saw him, I was called upon to settle a dispute (about childhood memories) between he and Karen. He would never admit it, of course, but he was wrong!  There was never a dull or quiet moment when Doug was around.

Thanks for the memories my friend.  Rest in peace.

So very sorry I hear about Doug passing. I’m from Poland, Ohio and went to Ohio State and knew Doug from OSU, playing softball together and years at Faculty Club, The Bier Stube , and the many years of enjoying The Holiday Inn pre and post OSU games with him. Doug always had a smile and a joke and was so enjoyable to be around.  He made you laugh and made you feel welcomed.  He always had a great story or made everyone laugh or enjoy themselves.   Doug was a people person and he made the world a better place and made everyone around him smile and laugh.  Thank you Doug.  You will be missed!!
