Clyde Elam Horst, 77, of Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully in his home on July 13th, 2022. He was born on May 26th, 1945 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Elias Horst of North Lawrence, Ohio, growing up on a dairy farm. He was a graduate of Kent State University, obtaining a degree in political science. He was active in campus life, participating in student senate and running for student body president. Clyde was elected president of the service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega. During college, Clyde met his wife of 53 years, Andrea Callas, of Youngstown, Ohio, and were married in 1969.
He worked for several state organizations before moving with his wife to central Ohio. The young couple settled in Dublin, raising two sons, Jeffery and Thomas. He spent over 20 years in banking, becoming a vice-president of collections for Bank One, and spent 3 months in Mexico City as a consultant to the Bank of Mexico.
Clyde had many pastimes and passions, which included golf and gardening. He loved baking homemade bread, making his signature chili, and playing with the family dogs Harker, Boomer and Joby. He enjoyed working with his hands, whether in the garden or around the house. Clyde understood the need for helping others and was a constant contributor to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. This outreach culminated in the couple’s in-home healthcare service, Daisy Home Wellness Care, helping those with non-medical and mobility challenges.
He is survived by his wife, Andrea; his sons, Jeffrey (Ben) and Thomas (Christine); his beloved grandson, Zachary; his brother, George Horst (Lois), and sisters, Gladys Schlegel and Nancy Vance (Bob). Viewing for family and friends will be Saturday, July 23rd from 1 PM -4PM at Schoedinger Funeral Home in Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Dr. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Mid-Ohio Food Collective.
