Carmelita Jane (Morgan) Vornbrock, age 103, found eternal peace on October 28, 2024. She was born on April 26, 1921, in Moberly, Missouri, to Charles Wesley Morgan and Amelia Kessler Morgan. She spent her high school years in Webster Groves, a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri.
After attending the University of Missouri, she wed Walter G. Vornbrock, Jr., with whom she shared 65 years of marriage. As the proud wife of a career Air Force officer, she traveled the world from San Antonio, Texas, to Madrid, Spain. After her husband ended his military career, the Vornbrocks spent their post retirement life in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Following her husband's death in 2010, Jane moved to Dublin, Ohio, and then later to Marysville, Ohio, where she spent her final years at Bluebird Retirement Community. She had moved 28 times since her marriage.
Jane was involved in many clubs and organizations during her long life, including Cook Guild, Daughters of the King, Daughters of the American Revolution, The Modern Culture Club, Chapter I of the PEO Sisterhood, and the Tuscaloosa Study Club. She was also a faithful member of Christ Episcopal Church in Tuscaloosa for 50 years. After her husband's retirement from the Air Force, the couple traveled throughout Europe and North America. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed watching classic movies, often into the wee hours of the morning.
Jane was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and son Edward Kessler Vornbrock. Left to treasure her memory are her sons, Page Morgan Vornbrock and his wife, Cheryl; Walter Guerdan Vornbrock III; Frederick Michael Vornbrock and his wife, MaryEllen; and daughter-in-law, Colleen Musselman and her husband, John. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kelley Yarborough (Clint); Kristin Elliott (Bo); Leslie Dopkowski (Adam); Lisa Cohe (Mac); Wesley and Amelia Vornbrock; and great-grandchildren Beau and Ryan Rose; Macy Shellhaas; and Claire Dopkowski.
The family would like to thank the staff of Bluebird Retirement Community for their constant care and attention to their mother over the last two years, as well as Hospice 360, who provided additional care during the last year.
A private inurnment ceremony will take place at Christ Episcopal Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama at a later date.
