On June 11, 2022, Bruce Richard Ronald, was unpredictably called to heaven. He was the world’s greatest dad, a legend of a pappy, a husband, a son, a brother, an uncle, a nephew, and friend. But to all, he was an incredible person.
Bruce was born to Phyllis and Richard Ronald, of Tuscarawas County, Ohio on August 30, 1957. He was one of four children, a 1976 graduate of Indian Valley North, and attended Heidelberg University where he obtained his B.S. in Management Science, played football, and met the love of his life, Kendra.
He and Kendra married on January 26, 1985, a particularly blistery and snowy day. They certainly didn’t have to worry about their ice sculpture melting! They spent their married life in Westerville, Ohio and welcomed and raised their only daughter, Kelsey, in a community they loved.
He enjoyed a career in industrial management and sales. His gift of easy conversation and making friends enriched both his career and his life. You couldn’t drive by the Budweiser Plant in Columbus without hearing the tale of how he had been to the top of the tower(s) for work. In 2007, Bruce relocated to Jackson, Michigan and developed a close community of friends that always made him feel welcomed and loved.
His humor and wit was enjoyed by many. He was a brilliant man, avid reader, and enthusiastic debater. Not to mention one heck of a Parcheesi player! Did you know (you probably did, he always boasted about it) that he won the Betty Crocker Award in high school after choosing to participate on a whim? He also was a member of Coach Bob Huggins’ first championship team when Bob (an 8th grader) coached Bruce’s 5th grade “Biddy Ball” team!
Above all, Bruce was a man who spent his life wholeheartedly dedicated to his family. He spent the last two years of life enjoying every minute of being “Pappy” to his grandson, Oliver. Kelsey and Oliver were Bruce’s true source of happiness, and they already fiercely miss his presence.
He lived his life with joy, enthusiasm and, and the patience of a saint. Words cannot describe how much he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by:
His daughter, Kelsey (David) Ostrander, and grandson, Oliver Ronald Ostrander.
His loyal friend and companion, Apollo (dog).
His mother, Phyllis Ronald.
His siblings: Shelley (Dean) Wehr, Kim (David) Smith, and Brent (Jamie) Ronald.
Along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by:
His wife, Kendra Ronald.
His father, Richard Ronald.
Rest in peace, Bruce.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting for those so inclined to make a donation in Bruce’s name to the following:
