Helen Garnto Rowland, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on May 19, 2011. She was 88 years old. She was born to Ellie Spence and George Littleton Garnto on December 15, 1922. She graduated from Scott High School and attended Georgia State College for Women. She was a housewife and homemaker. She had a joyous love for her family and friends which endeared her to many people. She loved to pamper them with home baked treats and special acts of kindness. She was fondly known as “Mama Helen” to her family and friends and amazingly never failed to inquire about their lives, even in her darkest hour. In her younger years, she was Johnson County’s Girl Scout Troup Organizer, County Girl Scout Cookie Chairman and belonged to many other school-supporting organizations. She loved to cook, read and garden. She is survived by her husband, Joe W. Rowland of Wrightsville, her daughters, Patsy (Bob) Barron of Macon, Jerri (Hugh) Veal of Wrightsville, Mary Beth Thompson of Dublin, and son, Joey (Sherry) Rowland of Wrightsville. She was preceded in death by her daughters Ellie Mason and Martha Hitchcock and infant grandson Al Kircher, Jr. She is also survived by grandchildren Christa and Harris Veal, Scotty Thompson, Henderson and Marissa Barron, Keith Meeks, Karen Warren, Tonya and Tony Mason, brother Carl Garnto and 4 great grandchildren. Services will be held at Wrightsville First Methodist Church on Sunday, May 22nd at 2:30pm, and visitation will be Saturday, May 21st from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Adams Funeral Home in Dublin.
