Walter M. "Sonny" McConnell

Born on May 21, 1937 in Beechwoods, he was the son of John and Edna (Irvin) McConnell.

Mr. McConnell had retired from Veolia after many years of service.

He attended the DuBois Church of God and had served with the United States Army Reserves.

Mr. McConnell was a member of the Falls Creek Eagles-Aerie # 960, the DuBois Veterans of Foreign Wars and the "O' Club.

He loved to dance and enjoyed spending time with his friends, family and dogs.

Mr. McConnell is survived by his son, Daniel P. McConnell and his wife Darlene of DuBois, PA; his daughter, Cindy J. Homan and her husband, Keith of Falls Creek, PA; five grandchildren: Joshua McConnell, Dustin Perrin, Michele Sherwood, Caleb Bullers, and Carly Homan; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ronald McConnell and his wife Karen of Falls Creek, PA and Bruce McConnell and his wife Evelyn of Reynoldsville, PA; several nieces and nephews and his three dogs, Dino, Bailey and Petie.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharon J. Pearce, whom he married on April 27, 1958 and who died on March 1, 2004 and a son, John J. McConnell on August 29, 2009.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Mohney Yargar Funeral Chapel, Inc., 142 W. Long Avenue, DuBois, PA with Rev. Charles Myers officiating. Interment will follow in the Beechwoods Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral chapel on Monday, September 13, 2010 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM and on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the hour of services.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Falls Creek Fire Dept, Friendship Hose Company 1, Inc, Volunteer Fire Department,4 1st Street, Falls Creek, PA 15840 or to the Hahne Cancer Center, 100 Hospital Avenue, DuBois, PA 15801.
