He was born on June 27, 1939 in DuBois the son of the late George and Minnie (Bruce) Nelson.
Ed was a graduate of Sandy High School. He went on to serve in the United States Army for twenty seven and half years. On April 29, 2000 he married Valerie (Chittester) Nelson, she survives.
He was a retired truck driver. He was a member of the Hickory Grange #1285, Sabula Fire Company, Masons, Valley of Coudersport, Segil Sportsman Club, the American Legion and President of Hormtown Rifle Club.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and riding his motorcycle.
Ed is survived by his two children: Brian and his wife Kathryn Nelson of DuBois and Vicki (Kevin Murray) Nelson of DuBois; two granddaughters: Karley and Olivia Nelson of DuBois; two brothers: Martin and Joseph Nelson of DuBois and two sisters: Dorothy Hoover and Mimi Chittester of DuBois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step son, Larry Roy and brother, George Nelson.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, October 10, 2016 at Mohney-Yargar Funeral Chapel, Inc. with Rev. John White Officiating. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 on Sunday, October 9, at the funeral home. An additional hour of viewing will be held on Monday from 10:00am until the hour of service.
