Downey resident William H. Cunningham, better known as “Bill”, passed away on February 21, 2012 at the age of 89. He was born January 15th of 1923 in Huntington Park, CA where he was raised. After graduating Huntington Park High School, during World War II he entered the Army. While stationed in Lake Charles, Louisiana, after attending a Methodist Church service, he met the love of his life Frances Ann Maxwell. After the end of the war, he returned to Lake Charles where they were married. They then returned to Huntington Park, CA. In 1948 they purchased a home in Lynwood, CA where they lived for 51 years till 1999 when they moved to Downey. Bill was employed by Pacific Bell Telephone Company for 35 years performing numerous levels of phone repair and installation.
Those who knew him know his passion for gardening. Bill and Frances were extremely involved in the Lynwood Methodist Church. He became active in many Lynwood Civic matters and was voted “Lynwood Volunteer of the year”. He was a great neighbor and friend to all and will be truly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
Bill is survived by his wife Frances, brother Donald, daughter Carolyn, son Stephen, daughter-in-law Maria and grandson Brian
