Bob was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, the fifth child of Grant and Elizabeth Stiles. Bob received a Bachelor's degree from Heidelberg College, and two master's degrees from Eden Theological Seminary and Andover Newton Theological School. Following these accomplishments, he served as an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ for the remainder of his life. He held positions in churches across the U.S. during his career, settling in Downey in the mid 1970s. In his later years, Bob became a successful Realtor, known locally as the "The Tomato Plant Guy."
A constant thread throughout Bob's life was his firm dedication to, and advocacy for, the causes of peace, justice and equality. Working through his church, with local organizations and through Heifer Project International, Bob helped ensure livelihood and independence for countless people across the globe.
Bob was known for his offbeat humor, his love of classical and organ music, trains, travel, and naps. Widely recognized for his friendliness, spirituality, and compassion, Bob was tireless and generous in his care for others. Above all, he was dedicated to his family.
Bob is survived by his spouse Clement Cheung; his three children, Kimberly, Mark and Jason; nine grandchildren; his siblings Donald, Thomas and Joann; and his beloved friend Joyce Stiles.

Dear Friends,
God brings new life!
For the grieving disciples who had buried their mentor and friend,
God resurrects Jesus among them in a new dimension.
For all of us who have suffered death and loss, God does not revive what has been.
Nor does God encourage us to try to recapture something that is no longer.
God makes things new.
