“Uncle Dick” died unexpectedly at Loyola Hospital, Chicago, IL, after a brief illness on 24 November 2017. He was born on 21 March 1934, in Indianapolis, IN, to Carl R. and Maurine (Stubbs) York. He was the youngest of four siblings, two of whom survive him: Jean Mozelle (York) Kitzmiller Wagner, wife of the late William J. Kitzmiller and the late Miles Wagner, Nancy Maurine (York) Strayer, wife of the late Roger L. Strayer, and the late Charles R. York, who is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Ward) York. Dick attended elementary schools in Indianapolis, IN, then graduated high school from Culver Military Academy, Culver, IN, and Denison University in Granville, OH, before serving in the U.S. Army. Upon leaving the military, Dick worked for Montgomery Ward, then became a stock broker in the 70’s, and later a realtor for Koenig & Strey in Buffalo Grove, IL. On 5 June 1965, he married the late Frances Carol Pier, in Northlake, IL, daughter of Frank and Sigrid Pier. Dick and Carol had no children. Dick had a love of music, and sang in several choirs and barber shop quartets, most recently singing with The Ambassadors. Dick was a gentle soul, who enjoyed his family of two remaining siblings, his many nieces and nephews, his many loyal friends, and Paddy, his loving feline companion, all of who will remember him fondly, and mourn his passing. In accordance with his wishes, no service will be held.
