She was born September 13, 1929 in Chicago to Harold and Agnes (Wilson) Hockensmith. She graduated from Providence High School.
Charlotte married Harold Spence on November 15, 1952. She worked at Sears in Chicago and then retired to raise their 7 children.
She and Harold were involved in the Boy Scouts of America, and instrumental in the startup of the first Co-Ed Explorer Post in the Chicago area, she loved traveling and camping with her family and the Explorers. She was a member of the Christian Family Movement at Saint Symphorosa Church in Chicago.
Charlotte and Harold traveled extensively throughout the United States during retirement while spending summers at their home at Woodhaven Lakes in Amboy, Illinois and winters at their home at Lakeside Terrace in Fruitland Park, Florida and finally settling at Fox Knoll in Aurora, Illinois in 2013.
They moved to the Fox Knoll community in Aurora, Illinois in 2013.
She loved music, playing cards, games, crafts, and luncheon's with the Red Hat's.
Charlotte is survived by her four children, Donald (Barbara), Richard (Shirley), Harold (Carla), and Kenneth (Debbie).
She is preceded in death by her husband Harold, sons Michael (Mary) and William and her daughter Linda (James).
Visitation will be held on Friday December 6, 2019 from 9:00am until the time of memorial mass at 11:00 am at Fox Knoll Chapel, 421 N. Lake St., Aurora, Il 60506. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Presence Fox Knoll, 421 N Lake St. Aurora, Il 60506 or Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care, 1550 Bishop Court, Mt. Prospect, Il 60506.
Harold and Charlotte will be laid to rest in a joint ceremony at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Il. Service will be at 2:00 pm following the memorial mass.
