Barbara Jean (Hansen) Schroeder, of Downers Grove, Illinois, born on October 31, 1950 in Duluth, Minnesota, to the late Howard and Jean Hansen, passed away peacefully at home with family on April 28, 2019. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Dawn (Jeff) Davis; sons, Scott Schroeder and Jonathan Schroeder; brother, Robert (Lynn) Hansen; grandchildren, Alysha Davis, Reese Davis, and Alex Schroeder; her nieces, nephews and cousins.
Barbara grew up in Arlington Heights, IL and attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a degree in education and became a well-loved teacher. After having children and enjoying being a stay-at-home mom, she went back to the workforce owning Muriel Mundy (and Jeanine’s) Women’s Clothing Stores. While running her business, she pursued her passion for teaching by becoming a substitute teacher in the District 58 schools. She continued to substitute teach, even after retiring.
Barbara enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially going on trips to the Morton Arboretum, museums and movies. She recently traveled on a few trips visiting her cousins and even went on a trip to Germany visiting her son Jonathan. Barbara also spent a lot of time with her friends and was very involved in her church. Anyone that knew her, knows that she was an extremely kind, caring, selfless person that was always willing to help others. She always had a smile on her face and a positive outlook.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and the Morton Arboretum. Friends and family members are welcome to attend the Celebration of Life on May 11 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Visitation begins at 10 am, followed by a service at 11 am.
