He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on August 4, 1948 the son of the late, Charlie Harvey Kinney and Gladys Browning Kinney. Weems had worked as a salesman with Lance, Inc. for a number of years. He had been the caregiver for his mother up until her death in 2007. Weems spent time watching many of the old movies. He was always an animal lover and would take in strays to meet their needs and then rehome them. Weems had been a lifelong student of the Bible and had watched many sermons on TV. He had been an active member of the First Baptist Church of Douglasville since he was nine years old. He had a broad interest in history and studied many areas to include Biblical, Roman, and ancient. Weems was into natural homeopathic medicine as well. He was an all-round good person and especially loved his family.
Weems graduated from Douglas County High School in 1966. He always loved sports and became an avid fan at an early age. Weems was a member of the Douglas County High School football team where he was named all state tackle. He was also a place kicker and responsible for the winning point in the State Championship game. After graduation, his love of the game never wavered and he went on to play semi pro football for the Marietta Generals. Weems was a huge fan of The University of Georgia Bulldogs, he also enjoyed the Atlanta Falcons and the Braves.
He is survived by his sister, and brother-in-law, Rita and Stephen B. Randall, maternal aunt, Janice McCravy, niece, Leslie Smith (Dirk Jenkins); nephew, Braeden R. Smith, niece-in-love, Tammie Smith, great nieces and nephews, Jourdan Smith, Jude Blunt, Sam Blunt, Garrett Smith, Summer Smith, Chloe Smith, Tamra Smith, great great nieces and nephews, Kinney Smith, Cheyann Smith and cousins, Susan Lee, “Bud” White, Kay Toon, Ray McCravey.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his nephews, Emory Smith, Nickolas Smith, and Kinn Smith.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 2:00 until 3:00 and the graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Rosehaven Cemetery with Rev. Ralph Medlock officiating. Those serving as pallbearers include Jourdan Smith, Sam Blunt, Jude Blunt and Braeden R. Smith.
In the event of rain, the service will be held inside the funeral home.
