She was born April 22, 1938 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Leonie moved to Chicago, where she met her husband and they married in August 1992 and raised their family in Chicago. Over the years in Chicago, Leonie worked as a nanny for numerous families. She loved children and had an amazing bond with babies. It was almost unbelievable how babies would relate to her seeming almost to be able to communicate and understand each other. Leonie was known for her sweet spirit and you never saw her upset. She could be strong-willed and had a strong mind of her own. A devoted wife and a loving mother, Leonie was family-focused and in her younger years loved to have family gatherings and parties, often being seen dancing with her “sweetheart”. She was a very talented seamstress, having made anything from Halloween costumes for her grandkids, to a beautiful wedding dress for a family friend. Throughout the majority of her life she was known for her talent with a needle and thread. She touched so many lives throughout her years, was loved and revered by her family and loved ones.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Edgard and Georgette (Elie) Bordes; and two brothers, Gerard Bordes and Fritz “Fanfan” Bordes.
Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 32 years, Joseph Nelson David; sons, Eliahou Patrick Henry, Edouard M. Henry, Jean Richard Henry and Roberto Henry; daughters, Marie Danielle Henry and Nancy David; brother, Serge Marcel Bordes; sisters, Elvire Bordes Guerrier, Mercia Bordes Malbranche, Marie Claire Myrtha Bordes Narcisse; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as multiple nieces, nephews and other extended family members and a tight circle of friends.
