Master Sergeant Richard Dean “Dick” Bowden, age 78, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020. He was born on October 2, 1942 in Broken Bow, Nebraska. He spent his childhood and teenage years in Sutherland, Nebraska. While in high school, Dick was involved in numerous sports – track being his favorite. He was awarded several state championships while on the track team. In his early adulthood, he and his wife, Shirley, were part of bowling teams. He also enjoyed hunting pheasant and took many hunting trips over the years.
Dick served our country in the U.S. Army for 23 and a half years, focusing his work in communications. He was stationed in Europe on two separate occasions in both Germany and Belgium. He was a Vietnam War Veteran and retired as Master Sergeant in 1987. After retiring from the military, he worked with J.B. Hunt for 12 years. Dick was loving, kind, generous, fair, and extremely devoted to his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Curtis Wayne and Helen (Vandeventer) Bowden and a brother, Jerry Bowden.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Shirley Ann (Randall) Bowden; his children, Crystal (Jason) Payne and Victor (Devon) Bowden; his grandsons, Nicholas (Ashley) Parker, Kaleb Bowden, Noah Parker, and Dean Bowden; his siblings, Mick Bowden of Rock Island, Illinois, Donnye “Gail” Bowden of Topeka, Kansas, Sharlee Broeker of Oxford, Nebraska, and their respective families; his uncle, Terry Vendeventer; and numerous other loved ones, family, and friends.
The family will be having a memorial service on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 11:00 am in the Rosehaven Chapel.
