Olon was born in Lockett, Texas on September 23, 1932, the son of the late Chester Oatis Harris and the late Georgia Mae Lankston Harris. Olon was a man of faith and had been an active member of Central Baptist Church in Douglasville, Georgia. He was never afraid of work, a jack-of-all-trades and great at them all! He enjoyed construction projects, a cabinetmaker and even built his own home. Olon spent time in the outdoors working in the yard and even found time for fishing. Olon was a Veteran having served our country in the United States Navy, as a Chief Petty Officer during the Korean and Vietnam eras supervising aviation machinists until his retirement. Olon loved his family and was a great provider. He adopted two children from Spain and gave them a great life in America!
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Elizabeth and Randy West, son, James “Jimmy” Ray Harris and his family: Debbie, William, Christopher and Dawn; grandchildren, Trey Harber, Stephen Harber (Lauren), David Harber (Sarah); great grandchildren, Eleanor and Henry Harber.
In addition to his parents, Chester and Georgia Harris, he is preceded in death by his precious wife, Felicia of over fifty-six years his sisters, Lillie Grace Rhodes and Mary Frances Blair.
The family will receive friends at Whitley Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home on Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 10:00 until 12:00 p.m. The service will begin at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Charles Gibbs officiating. Interment will follow the service at Rosehaven Cemetery.
