Pastor Larry Joe Massey, age 78, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Saturday, March 26, 2022. Larry was born September 9, 1943 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and next to God, family was most important in his life. Larry was a humble, compassionate man who was born again at the age of six and called to preach. He began the ministry in his late teens as the State Youth Director for The Church of God of Prophecy. Larry’s first pastorate was at the age of 20 and he continued to pastor and evangelize through his adult life. Larry had the gift of music which he shared throughout his ministry, and in his later years he wrote numerous songs, some of which were aired on the radio. Prior to beginning to write music, Larry had preached a sermon on talents and if people had a talent and didn’t use it, God would take it and give it to someone else. That was when he wrote his first song. In his later years, he retired from the Douglas County School System as a bus driver. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling and bowled on the Christian and Senior Leagues in Douglas County. Larry will always be remembered for his love for God and always putting the ministry first and foremost in all aspects of his life.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Joseph Arnold and Annie Dee (Williams) Massey; and children, David Richard “Richie” Abercrombie and Sonya Abercrombie Glover.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 31 years, Sheila Carter Massey; children, Keagan Massey (Dezire), Kim Massey Bryant, Sharon Abercrombie DeBlasis; brother, Gerald Massey (Rebecca); grandchildren, J.
