Kathy Powers passed away on June 15, 2020 in Simpsonville, SC. She was born on February 27, 1954 in Woodruff, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Wayne and Helen Powers of Douglasville, Georgia.
Kathy graduated from Douglasville High School. She retired from Motions Industry. While living in Georgia, she was active in the American Legion Auxiliary.
Kathy attended Douglasville First Baptist Church when she lived in Georgia. She had a strong faith and was confident that her next home would be in heaven.
Kathy relocated to Laurens, South Carolina where she lived until a recent illness. She was appreciated by her family and friends for her gifts of cooking, canning, and crafting. She often cooked cakes and other sweets and food to share with family and neighbors. She sought after cucumbers, tomatoes and fruit to make pickles, chow-chow and jelly. And, she used her talents to produce beautiful cross stitch items, clothes, and aprons. She was able to provide comfort to many families when she used the shirts of their loved ones to make teddy bears as a remembrance upon their death.
Kathy is survived by a brother, Boyce Steve Powers of Merritt Island, Florida. Also by two uncles, Bob Strickland of Columbia and Phillip Posey of Greenville, South Carolina and two aunts, Martha Ann Capers of Augusta, Georgia and Audrey Powers of Simpsonville, South Carolina. She took great joy in her seven nieces and nephews: Joshua David Powers, Cody Allan Powers, Alexis Lynn Powers, Scarlett Lynn Powers, William Wayne Powers, Brennin Lochlan Powers and Stephen Lee Powers. Kathy is also survived by a number of cousins who enjoy many memories of family times spent with Kathy.
Kathy will be buried with her parents at the Rose Haven Cemetery in Douglasville, Georgia. Due to COVID-19 there will not be a celebration of her life at this time. The family will gather at a later date to honor her memory.
